Why there is a Neve Michael Childrens
Home
The world lacks not for horrors. Depression, disability, depravity,
all lurk just slightly below our awareness. They can extract tolls
of untold magnitude from the most vulnerable and innocent of all
- children.
Neve Michael is a safe haven for Israeli children
at risk, whose biological parents can no longer care for them. We
provide sustenance, education, and a warm and caring environment
to over 250 needy children from the ages of 4 to 18.
Neve Michael, located in Pardes Hanna in Northern
Israel, serves children from all over Israel who are brought to
our doorstep at a tender age and under traumatic circumstances.
These unfortunate children were separated from their natural parents,
parents who in many cases are afflicted with mental illness or drug
and alcohol addictions.
Our Mission Statement
At Neve Michael, our mission is to provide the best education
and therapeutic care for our children, so that they can overcome
their past traumas and develop into healthy and vibrant young men
and women.
Our Home
Our home is divided into several components:
- A 24-hour crisis centre that receives children in emergency
circumstances.
- We receive children from all over the country.
- Family units that provide our children with the love, warmth,
support and stability that is so sorely lacking in their young
lives.
- Our school, tutoring services and therapy programs are tailored
to meet the individual needs of our children.
- New Zealand House, our prized arts and creativity centre, so
generously funded by previous UIA Auckland fund raising campaigns.
This is where our children can relax, have fun and enjoy life.
- A synagogue that provides a spiritual meeting place for our
children where they become acquainted with their Jewish heritage.
The Intangibles
The real services we provide at Neve Michael are the intangibles.
For example, its the social atmosphere in New Zealand House
that brings our children together and teaches them how to interact
with one another. The kindness that is expressed in so many ways
by our wonderful staff and caring house mothers who tuck our children
into bed at night when theyre small. Its all these intangibles,
and all the subtle gestures of human kindness that help restore
our childrens confidence in themselves and their faith in
other people.
It is also your kindness and assistance that
gives us the tools to enable our children to break the vicious cycle
of distress.
Thank you, for together, we make a difference in the lives
of over 250 children.
